Brian Cairns (b.1965)
Brian Cairns is a Glasgow (Scotland, UK) based Artist and Illustrator. For over 30 years he has produced award winning work for a range of international clients and continues to develop his personal work and accept selected commissions.
His work is featured in numerous publications on design and illustration including Handwritten and 100 Illustrators, as well features in magazines such as Creative Review, I-D, Print and Communication Arts. His work is featured in awards annuals such as Design & Art Direction (D&AD), Art Directors Club of New York (ADC), American Illustration and The Society of Illustrator of New York, who awarded him a Gold Medal.
His work has been exhibited in over 64 countries and is included in the design curriculum for New South Wales, Australia. In 2010 he chaired the illustration jury for the D&AD Professional Awards and was a D&AD black pencil jury member. He has also been a jury member for the Association of Illustrators (UK) and Deutsche Bank Arts Awards. He has written for 3x3 magazine and is an Adobe Education Leader.
Brian Cairns is a Senior Lecturer in Communication Design at The Glasgow School of Art, and Programme Leader for the Masters programmes in Communication Design. He continues to produce research in Communication Design related topics, specialising in illustration practice. He has presented at the ICON conference in Portland (2014) and Confia conferences in Portugal in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. He is a Fellow of Advance HE.
